She is an active member of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA), RACS, the Spine Society of Australia (SSA), and the Australian Paediatric Orthopaedic Society (APOS). Dr Lakis graduated with an MBBS from UWA and has gained surgical experience across diverse specialties before focusing her training on orthopaedic surgery.
Having worked in both private and public practice in NSW and ACT, Dr Lakis has now returned to her home in WA. She possesses extensive experience in spinal surgery, particularly in complex spinal deformities and conditions affecting both adults and children, acquired through her work at Sydney Children’s Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital. She also provided on-call services for the state adult spine trauma roster, addressing cases involving cord injury, trauma, tumors, and degenerative pathology.
Her post-Fellowship advanced training, conducted in 2017 and 2018 across various sites in Australia and New Zealand, enriched her expertise in adult trauma, tumor management, and degenerative spinal conditions. She also received subspecialty training in paediatric spinal deformity and general paediatric orthopaedics.
For many years, Samya has been passionate about education, actively teaching through various societies and offering training for orthopaedic trainees, paediatricians, GPs, and allied health professionals.
